In my current body of work, I find myself exploring my experience of emotion: how emotions manifest themselves for me as physical and mental experiences. For instance, when anxious or nervous, I might describe myself as feeling “cold,” “shaky,” or “off-balance.” When happy, I might experience a feeling that I could only describe as “warm,” “bubbling over,” or “overflowing like a fountain.” By arranging bowls together in certain ways, I attempt to create a visual representation of what I experience in emotions such as peace, joy, anxiety, or anger. I choose to use bowls because I identify with the honesty, simplicity, and expressiveness that I see in their basic forms; thus, I feel that they are the forms best suited to be visual placeholders for my emotional experiences.
